Projects for 2011

A little heads up on the projects that people are discussing, painting figures for, and planning on for 2011.

10mm Forlorn Hope/Other Thirty Years War
Tom Zwirn is the driving force behind this project, and the painting machine is well at work.

25mm Drums of War along the Mohawk [AKA Drums] for the French and Indian War
Over the years I have collected and painted a few figures for this project and finally I have enough figures to get a game started. In conjunction with Brent Olson we will be running a game in January to see what everyone’s level of interest is.

25mm Rank and File American Civil War
As we quickly approach the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War this is another project that I am pushing. Our goal is to start fairly small with players pushing a Brigade of Infantry and associated Artillery and working our ways up into players commanding Multiple Brigades.
We plan on doing a minor game in either February or March and maybe a larger game in July to commemorate the First Battle of Bull Run.

A couple of projects that it wouldn't take a whole lot of effort to get off the ground, but someone needs to take charge and make it happen.

15mm Fields of Glory - Punic Wars.
Fitz has a Carthaginian Army, Joe Knight has a Seleucid Army, I have most of Macedonian Successor Army (actually make up to be determined). The real push would be made if some painted up and pushed a Mid-Republican Roman Army.

Continuing projects and Games
15mm Koenig Krieg 2nd Edition War of Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War
10mm Napoleonic Command Napoleonic Wars
15mm Napoleon’s Battles Napoleonic Wars
25mm Horse Musket and Gun 1813 Campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars
15mm Spearhead World War II

Projects on the periphery that may make a special appearance
25mm Might of Arms First Crusade
25mm Wilderness WarsAmerican War of Independence
15mm Rally Round the Flag / Rifle Wars American Civil War
Mirco Rules to be Determined World War II Pacific Naval
15mm Broadsword World War II Pacific Theater
Micro Modern Spearhead Modern Micro Armor

Of course there are a number of other projects that players have either started painting figures for or talked about that aren’t in playable condition at the moment, so if you are interested in something come on down to one of our game days and talk with us.

Some Planned or tentatively planned events:
The Centurions are looking to partner with SPI [St. Paul Irregulars] at doing a large 15mm KK game day using some sort of Campaign / Multi-Table Battle sometime late winter/spring time frame. If you have any ideas or “the what not” please let me know (The other other Jeff).

As usual a number of Centurions will be attending the Seven Year's War Convention in South Bend Indiana over March 25th and 26th. http://www.sywconvention.com/ If you are interested in attending please talk with Claudius, I mean Fitz. Currently we are discussing running the Battle of Grocka between the Austrian Empire and Ottoman Empire in 1739 using 2nd Edition KK.
I am pretty sure there will be a Game of BAR also occurring at the Con.

In May I will running a 25mm Napoleonic Game on some what a large scale, using Horse Musket and Gun. This of course is my Birthday Game.

In July I will be running a 25mm ACW game to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas).

Upcoming Game - Oct 16th

TURKENKRIEG!

Due to scheduling conflicts with several members I had to scale back the scope of the game I wanted to run on Saturday. I decided that it would be easiest to throw on a small game of KK instead of trying to run a game of the largest battle in the Peninsular period of the Napoleonic Wars.

And then I was assailed by the Grand Turk's least favorite son-in-law who declared that the Turks were on the move north to invade the Hereditary Lands yet again...

So the game this Saturday is going to be a Turkish grudge match with the Austrians in 15mm using Koenig Krieg. All the specifics for the game are the same, noon start @ the Source. Bring figures if you have them, yada, yada, yada...

Sorry for the late notice and I hope to see you there.

CORRECTION/CHANGE - Upcoming Game - Oct 16th

CORRECTION/CHANGE -

Due to a run of incredible bad luck we will have to reschedule this game for sometime in the winter. Right now it is looking like January. I'll keep you informed. My sincere apologies to everyone that had planned to make this game, however, we will still be meeting on Saturday to play.

On October 16th we will take another stab at the Battle of Vittoria using Napoleon's Battles...

Hastings Game - May 8th

Due to a lack of interest in 25mm AWI or F&IW we have had to change the game line up at the Levee Cafe this weekend. There will be no game on Friday night and we will be playing Napoleon's Battles in 15mm on Saturday. The scenario is set in 1809 and all figures will be provided. Hope to see you there.

Fitz

Upcoming Game - June 19th

I will be putting on a 25mm ECW game. We will be trying a BAR variant for the ECW. I've had several requests to try this and we'll give it a shot on the 19th. As always, the game will be at the Source and will begin around 11:00 am. All figures will be provided and the game should be a hoot. Hope you can make it.

Report from South Bend

POSTED on behalf of Jeff Knudsen.

I just got back from the annual convention of the Seven Years War Association, where I ran a naval scenario set on Lake Champlain in 1776. Between the quality of the events at this gathering, the good company of the scholars and gentlemen in attendance, the engaging and thought-provoking lecture by the eminent Dr. Dennis Showalter, and the fine food and impressive array of single-malts next door at the Fiddler's Hearth, it was indeed a weekend to remember. Many thanks to Randy Frye, convention director, for his hard work and dedication, and congratulations to Tod Kershner and Dale Wood on the Best Event award, which earns them a well-deserved place on the Pour le Merite trophy.

There are three sets of pictures on my Flickr page here:

For those who are interested in naval warfare on the Great Lakes, or indeed naval warfare during the Age of Sail in general, you can download the set of rules used in my game ("Away, Boarders!") and a free sample of the cardstock model ships at my new website:

http://www.warartisan.com/

It's a little bare-bones so far, but there's a few interesting items there and I'll be adding more regularly.

Regards,

Jeff

Thanks to the St. Paul Irregulars for a Great Game

I would like to thank the St. Paul Irregulars for putting on Saturday's Carnage and Glory 15mm Napoleonic Game at the Levee Cafe. It was a beautifully presented game that was well designed and run.

I wish I personally could have stayed until the end to relish the massive Prussian Victory that was coming; however with a new puppy in the house I had to leave at 5PM just as the Prussian Hammer started forward. So I will need to allow my Prussian allies provide a great AAR so that I may Marvel at its brilliance.

Thanks once again.

January 23rd - Levee Cafe' Game - Carnage and Glory

1813 Game

A Prusso – Russian Army is advancing from the South towards Saxony. Elements of the Army of Germany will attempt to stop them.

This is a game from our 1813 Russia Rising campaign game where there was no invasion of Russia – The Prussians, showing their normal political savvy, have joined them. Austria is still not sure what to do – their normal plan :_)

We will play Carnage and Glory, a computer Moderated game which allows the player to concentrate on the actions of their troops, not the rules system. It is a tactical system where unit formation is important.

The computer tracks fatigue and ammunition status, casualties and formations. The players issue orders by brigade. ADC’s are used to move orders and to get status reports on units.

Anyone who has played Empire or any other will be very comfortable.

Game starts at 11 AM or so…– A rule demo will be run at 10 AM.
